A flip? Or what?

I've seen a few listings vaguely similar to this in the past, and I'm a bit puzzled about what's going on:

http://www.redfin.com/CA/Laguna-Niguel/23591-Trinidad-Ln-92677/home/5774752

It was listed on Oct 25 2010 for $935,000, on Nov 9 2010 the price was changed upward to $999,999, on Jan 26 2011 it sold for $997,000, on Jan 27 2011 (one day later), it "sold" for $97,000, and now it's listed for $1,149,000. This all seems bizarre. Also slightly strange that there's only one photo, but I presume more might be added later.

Any idea what is happening with this kind of listing?

Re: A flip? Or what?

This listing is definitely interesting. Someone bought the home in 2004 for $1.35M. It was sold (short sale) in January 2011 for $997,000 (the public record says $97,000, but it's likely just a typo). The very weird thing is that in May of 2011 it was 'Sold' back to the same trust that sold it short.

I don't want to speculate as to what is going on, but it doesn't look common.

Hope that helps and have a great day,

Re: A flip? Or what?

Hello, the sale that took place for $97,000.00 wasn't a "full value" transfer -- i.e. the buyer gave the seller $97,000.00 and assumed all the liens on the property.

I think I'll accept Paul's MLS misprint story, as the most logical. ( Or likely.)

All this, of course, is merely MY opinion. Thanks for reading.

Re: A flip? Or what?

Thanks all. Is this kind of information available publicly online somewhere? I haven't ever been able to find that kind of resource for OC, as I have for other areas in the past. I know how to find the tax bill, but that's about it...
