my husband and i are also creative professionals who work in LA but love the desert - we're renters here in the city but are looking to buy our first house - a "second" getaway house - out in the desert. so my answer is half-yes; the 2 hour daily commute is off the table for us, as is buying a half million dollar home in our neighborhood - we're thinking we split the difference and invest in our own santuary outside the city for weekends and weeks off work. good luck!

Yes, really! We got tired of looking at $1M condos in West Hollywood...much less $1.4M cracker box single family residences. We bought in Palm Springs in 2009 and got a 5 year old, 3K sq ft home with a pool for $425K. We love it here and can still easily access LA, San Diego, and OC.
