Virtual tours? Give me a floor plan any day.

I have to say I don't really see a point to many of the virtual tours linked to by some listings - it's usually the exact same set of pictures available within redfin, but with panning.

Floorplans, on the other hand, make me drool.  So much more information there.

I imagine the latter is a lot more work than the former, but if you have to decide, I say put floorplans.

What do others think?

I've seen some virtual tours that contain a lot more photos than the listing. However, I'd much rather just have all those photos in the listing than have to sit through a cheesily-animated "tour" with annoying music (of course I always mute my speakers before viewing one). And yes, floorplans would be very helpful.

I agree. I don't understand why anyone would waste money on a virtual tour that's not a floor plan. Once you have a floorplan, you can figure out how the photos that exist fit together. Beyond that, you are going to want to see the house anyway.

I don't know what the price diff between a virtual tour and a floor plan are, but I imagine that if you are willing to spend some money on a virtual tour, you can probably kick in a little more for a floor plan - because that is what people are going to care about anyway.

The floorplans with little camera links, so you can see individual pictures of the home at specific angles really make me drool...

modernhamlet - agreed  -those are great to pull everything together.

I've also seen one service that lets you drag furniture icons onto the floorplan, but that seemed more like a fun way to kill some time rather than a big value add.

Hello,

At Redfin we have partnered up with Boston Virtual Imaging to provide all of our listing clients with a virtual floor plan of their property. No charge to the client.

Here is a link to one of our active listings floor plan.

Very nice Shawn - looks like it has 'all of the above' features.  Curious - are 'External Links' all from the MLS?

By the way - since you put the link directly to the floorplan, their doesn't seem to be enough info in the floorplan to find the original listing.

Hi,

Yes all of our links pull from MLS. MLS will only allow the address info on any link.  If we try to add any other info they wont allow the link to be added.

Thanks
