Casino in Massachusetts

This article ( http://goo.gl/5ADfX ) discusses the proposed casino that would be built in Foxborough. How do you think a casino will affect home prices? Would you avoid areas in the vicinity of a casino?"

Re: Casino in Massachusetts

I remember hearing in the Lawrence Eagle Tribune about possibly putting one up in Boston and in the Indian Reservations in West Massachusetts as well. Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

Re: Casino in Massachusetts

I don't see how a casino in Foxborough would impact home values any more than Gillette does today. If you look at the CT casinos, it's not like they caused an outbreak of crime in their area. And I'd be willing to bet the local tax revenues would allow for lower residential property taxes or vastly improved schools and services. Of course there are other social costs to casinos, but I don't see them impacting home prices.

Re: Casino in Massachusetts

What about a town like Bridgewater?  The town already has the university and jail but not much shopping or other entertainment.  Wouldn't a casino bring values down?
