Hi everyone, This is my first time posting.. long time reader, etc.. We just put an all cash offer on a house above asking this morning, only to hear the bank had just accepted an FHA loan on the same house for more. I was always under the impression that FHA loans wouldn't lend on a house that had non-permitted additions, etc.. and this house has an office addition to the garage and a non-permitted half bath in the main house. Are there types of FHA loans that allow non-permitted additions?

I'm not sure that FHA restrictions are the 'big bad monster' they are made out to be. I was in escrow on a house that had foundation issues, unpermitted space, lead based paint, etc and the appraiser (sent out by the bank) said the property was fine and ready to go! Absolutely no red flags! I was shocked! The reason I cancelled escrow is because the sellers and I could not agree on other terms, not because it wasn't approved by FHA.
