Funny how Obama continues to spend billions in Iraq and Afghanistan, yet his supporters don't seem to mind. By the way, have any troops come home yet ?

Bush oversaw a near doubling of the federal debt from over $5 trillion to over $10 trillion. Obama is overseeing a record federal deficit. They both spent like drunken sailors. Meanwhile, Republican voters get hypnotized by the abortion issue while their party pretends to be the party of fiscal conservatives, but nothing changes regarding the abortion issue and both parties show no fiscal restraint. Our whole political system is fiscally inefficient. Neither party is blameless. If only Ron Paul just had a little more charisma. He's a lonely voice of conscience when it comes to fiscal responsibility.

Could not agree more... too bad everyone in the media makes him out to be some sort of a whack job...

Sure they are...if you call Afghanistan home..20,000 on their way to support the surge. Of course, that is what McCain supported in Iraq, but the Obama adoring media puts it all in page 25. It's a shame all the money spent in Iraq, but if you want to be crude and boil down to economics, we did not have another 9/11...and as you all may recall that cost a bit etc..

What a bunch of morons. If you think living on food stamps is so great, then go do it. Try living in public housing in the ghetto. Or sending your children to the understaffed, poorly run public schools. Making sure children have food to eat, families have health care, and no one lives in poverty is not a private good, its a social one. Poverty generates a range of social ills that have consequences for us all. Or maybe not, since most of you probably live in gated communities, drive your beamer to work on a private highway, and send your children to private school where they will never have to interact with one of those "lazy," "incompetent" free-riders.

Well--the idea is for most people to prepare so they don't put themselves in a position where they need to ask for food stamps. This forum may have high end income folks or not, but you have to admit that a lot of these folks who end up in this dire position, do so because of their choices in life. Free will has its prices. My mother held three jobs to support my siblings and I, but never walked down to the local welfare office because she had character and hated handouts. Guess what--so do I. There are no excuses in this country, but a lot of Obama's supporters think government is the solution for their every problem and want everything subsidized by those of us who actually pay taxes. Poverty in itself is not an excuse...

Its amazing to me that people look at welfare and call it "government handouts" but when they look at their public school teacher, the roads they drive on, the public beaches and parks they play with their children at, they don't think "hand out." Government provide public services in a range of areas - those that are considered "middle class" like parks and roads are not perceived as handouts despite the fact that they are often redistributive (e.g., you don't pay for what you get). Unforgiven - I know many people who make this argument ("poverty is a moral failing, if only they worked harder, or smarter, they wouldn't need government"). I personally think its bs but if we are to assume its true, that still leaves generations of children subject to living in horrible conditions because they're parents are "irresponsible." Personally, I'm not willing to watch the kind of suffering simply to teach someone a lesson.
