Hi Matt, Thanks for a long over due move. The anti-buy fringe serial posters have really hijacked what used to be a helpful forum. The personal attacks (direct or implied) have turned me from a poster trying to share my experience, to a lurker and that's sad. We found Redfin 1 1/2 years ago after we decided the time was right for us and we have never regretted that decision. Your staff was great. My suggestion for the forums is to add a thumbs-down option to go along with the kudos. Let the loud minority know the majority does not agree. Good Luck

I love the idea of a thumbs down! Those who have knowledge don't predict. Those who predict don't have knowledge. - Lao Tzu

Regarding a "thumbs down" button - I'd just point out that the "kudos" is not used very often. The top "kudoed" post in this forum - 26 times - has been viewed over 3,700 times. Only four posts out of the nearly 12,500 on the BA forum (.03%) have double-digit kudos. I wouldn't be surprised to see a thumbs down button get used more, but to me that's even more of a reason not to do it.

Matt Thanks for making the effort to keep a healthy atmosphere in this forum. Kudo from me. It had gotten so bad in the past few weeks that it made little sense to stay around to listen to what people had to say or to contribute something risking being derided by those who turned discussion into arguments and personal attacks. Maybe not a thumbs-down option as that doesn't tell enough, but an option for viewers to mark the posting as 1 of 5 categories: 1) sky is the limit 2) trending up, 3) balanced, 4) trending down, 5) six feet under. Redfin would then aggregate the votes of the poster and display that poster's aggregate category setting. Then I would know if the poster was a "sky is the limit" spouter or "six feet under" spouter. Obviously, the category names, if adopted, would likely be changed by redfin to something more acceptable. Next i would like the option to filter out the posting of anybody falling in the 2 extreme categories (except when i want to be amused)

Good idea luckydogz. Slashdot has something similar. Six feet under is -1. Thereafter it goes 0 to 5. But the kicker is that in order to rate comments, you have to have "mana", and rating others reduces your mana. Mana is collected by making comments. Reward for being active on the board.
